Astella was established in 1975 by concerned tenants, landlords, and community residents whose primary goal was to stem the tide of neighborhood deterioration. Through the years, Astella supported affordable housing and commercial revitalization throughout the Coney Island community, constructing and marketing over 1000 affordable single family homes.

Today, Astella continues to meet the needs of the Coney Island residents, working closely with its partner, Brooklyn Community Services, to develop programs and services to achieve its ongoing goals of greater equity and self-sufficiency for all who live, work and go to school in this wonderful community.  Astella is supported by both public agencies and private donors.
